Back in December we announced our involvement in the national crisp packet recycling scheme. Established by TerraCycle and Walkers, the aim was to recycle ‘non-recyclables’ and avoid millions of pounds of waste going to landfills and incinerators each year.
We marked our independent petrol station as the first collector in Morecambe and Lancaster. And, we’ve partnered with Bowerham Primary & Nursery School to collect even more crisp packets, who have collected 2500 so far.
That’s 2500 empty packets of crisps that have been separated by plastic types, cleaned, and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
Plus, for every 400 collected, TerraCycle donated a £2 reward to a not-for-profit organisation and/or local charity of choice. The £12 raised through Bowerham Primary & Nursery School’s delivery of plastic has gone towards helping the world become a better place.
As a result of our work, we were ‘highly commended at the Sunshine Awards for our contribution to the community and have been highly commended in Sustainability at the awards on May 3rd.
We want to continue doing what we can for the community. To continue donating empty packets come to Pye Motors Petrol Station on Ovangle Rd, Morecambe, LA3 3PF.
There are also collection boxes at our dealerships in Barrow & Kendal as well as at Bailrigg Motors on the Lancaster University campus.
