Why do my tyres lose pressure? Whilst laziness is probably behind people not regularly checking their tyres, an additional cause for the under inflated tyres is the air that's used to fill them... At present most tyres on our roads are filled with compressed air. This is the same air that we breathe; it's just as a higher pressure. Air is not just a single gas, but is a mixture of roughly 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen plus some other trace gases such as helium and water vapour. The reason that a tyre will lose pressure over time is a result of oxygen from the compressed air 'leaking' out through the rubber of the tyre. The tyre acts as a membrane through which oxygen will permeate (leak). The difference in partical pressure of the oxygen inside the tyre and outside causes this. Filling with TyreSaver means there's no problem because the TyreSaver equipment removes oxygen and water vapour from the compressed air before it reaches your tyre. This means that your tyre will stay at the correct pressure for longer.
The RAC Foundation for Motoring has quoted that under inflation by 20% causes a 30% reduction in tyre life and a 3% drop in fuel consumption. The potential savings if you inflate your tyres with TyreSaver are obvious... Correct inflation with nitrogen means...
At Pye Motors we are committed to giving our customers the very best service, products and prices. Tyres are the only contact between your vehicle and the road. Are you safe, legal, correctly inflated, do you know what you are driving on? Don't feel under pressure, let Pye Motors help you to improve your safety and save you money. F1 and other race cars plus motorbikes, Trains on the Paris Metro, airliners and even the space shuttle use Nitrogen in their tyres.
No, nitrogen is inert, nitrogen also reduces the degradation of the rubber that frequently occurs in the presence of moist oxygen.
