What is the Ford Mustang Mach-E Range?

By Jen Hyslop

Electric cars have become a common sight on UK roads. With the current fuel prices many people are thinking of converting to electric - if this is you or you just love everything Ford, read on to see how the Mach-E could fit into your life!

The Mustang Mach-E is the pinnacle of electric cars with a maximum drive range of a huge 379 miles. It’s worth bearing in mind that driving styles, weather conditions or whether you are motorway or town driving, will all play a part in the Mustang Mach-E’s range.

Going electric does not mean you have to lack horsepower; the Mustang Mach-E can still get you from A to B safely, comfortably and actually quite rapidly.
Let’s look at what is available:

  • Mustang Mach-E RWD has a driving range of 280 - 379 miles (WLTP results) whilst also being able to do 0.62 mph in 6.1 seconds.
  • Mustang Mach-E AWD with an advanced dual motor has a driving range of 253 - 335 mile (WLTP results) whilst also being able to do 0-62 mph in 5.1 seconds.
  • Mustang Mach-E GT has a driving range of 236 – 310 (WLTP results) whilst also being able to do 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

So, what are they like to drive and own?

Charging the Mustang Mach-E is much like charging your mobile phone.

For home use the Universal Charge Cable comes with an adaptor to plug into a domestic 3-pin socket. Charging will be around 8 miles of range per hour. The 3-pin socket can come in handy when visiting friends and family away from home without a charging facility.

An optional Ford Connected Wall Box home charging point with faster charge time is available. It will recharge over 20 miles of range each hour and will complete a full charge overnight. The 7.4kW needs to be installed professionally. Contact us for more information.

On the road the Mustang Mach-E has the capability of recharging 73 miles of driving range in just 10 minutes using the high-power DC rapid charge – great for quick motorway stops while you grab a coffee. If you need to recharge your Mustang Mach-E the Ford Pass app will direct you to the nearest high-power DC charger.

The FordPass app allows you to locate charging points during your planned route, which can then be shared with your vehicle's navigation system. As your range drops the vehicle will also send you alerts giving you the distance to the nearest charge location.

As with all electric vehicles, the power stored in the battery is finite. There is no engine to run ancillaries from, so the more that is switched on in the vehicle the more the range will be affected.

These include:

  • Heated seats & heated steering wheel
  • Cabin heating & cooling
  • Audio
  • Lighting
  • Use of accessories
  • Hard acceleration/deceleration

Keeping a consistent temperature in the vehicle will be more efficient rather than turning the climate control on and off as heating and cooling the car while driving will use more from the battery.

The Mustang Mach-E delivers low running costs to help with day-to-day family life. Like with all other electric suv vehicles, there is currently no road tax to pay and with zero driving emissions, this allows access to Ultra Low Emission Zones without any penalties.

Example of cost of motoring:

Barrow – Manchester – 200 miles – return trip.

Ford Focus ST 2.3 Petrol would use £47.44 in fuel with a combined MPG of 34.9 – based on 184.0 a litre. *Fuel prices correct at time of writing*

Mustang Mach-E RWD would use £13.62 in electricity based on its combined power consumption figures.
