You have two options for charging your all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle at home. The simplest: just plug into a standard domestic socket using the supplied home charging cable. And the fastest: a dedicated home charging point, like the Ford Wallbox, for charging up to five times faster than a standard socket.
How much it costs to charge an electric car depends on variables like battery size, your electricity tariff, how much your battery is already charged and the EV’s temperature.
CHARGING FROM A STANDARD SOCKET
Charging your hybrid or electric vehicle from a standard domestic socket is simple. All you need is the supplied home charging cable and a socket within reach.
It's not the fastest method because of the limited power from household sockets, but charge your EV overnight and it will usually be ready to drive the next day.
You don’t need any additional equipment, so it’s a cost effective and accessible way to charge an electric car at home. And you could make further savings by choosing an electricity tariff with lower off-peak pricing.
HOME CHARGING POINTS
An EV home charging point, like the Ford Wallbox, is a dedicated charger for your all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. As the name suggests, it's a wall mounted unit, usually with an integrated EV charging cable. It’s the fastest home charging option — up to five times faster than charging via a standard domestic socket.
With a Ford Wallbox home charging point, you can even pair with the FordPass App to manage charging schedules, monitor charge levels and control access to the charger. We can help you arrange the installation of a Ford Wallbox through our local specialist installer.
EV CHARGING CABLES
If you want to charge from a standard domestic socket, you’ll need to use your home charging cable. This is included as standard with Ford all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles like the Mustang Mach-E and Kuga PHEV.
If you’re traveling abroad or want to connect to a different type of socket, we can sell you alternative connectors for your charging cable, as well as other electric and hybrid accessories, for your trip.
