As part of the TerraCycle Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme we’ve managed to collect a whopping 52,000 empty crisp packets!
Over the past year, we’ve worked with our community and local schools to collect empty crisp packets and return them to Walkers for recycling. This scheme was initially started by Walkers and developed in partnership with TerraCycle. Their goal was to collect used crisp packets and recycle them responsibly, preventing waste from ending up in landfill and other areas of our environment.
With every 400 packets collected, TerraCycle promised to donate £2 to a not-for-profit or local charity of our choice. With 52,000 packets and counting, we’ve raised over £320 for St John’s Hospice.
Walkers’ ultimate goal is to develop a packaging that keeps their crisps crunchy while being 100% recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable.
In the meantime, this scheme aims to reduce their impact on the environment. In our bid to help out, our Morecambe petrol station became the first collector in the Morecambe and Lancaster area. By working with a number of local schools including Lancaster Road Primary and Bowerham Primary & Nursery School, as well as friends, collegues, family and numerous individual contributions, we’ve managed to return over 52,000 packets.
The empty crisp packets will now be cleaned and turned into plastic pellets to create new, recycled products.
If you wish to donate, please visit our Pye Motors Petrol Station on Ovangle Rd, Morecambe, LA3 3PF.
You can also find collection boxes at our dealerships in Barrow & Kendal as well as at Bailrigg Motors on the Lancaster University campus.
