Perfect adventure for you and your car

By Pye Motors

English Tourism Week starts on Saturday and as the majority of us will be holidaying in the UK this summer we thought we would celebrate some amazing drives and some fantastic attractions for the car enthusiast.

North Coast 500 - Scotland’s ultimate road trip
This route following 516 miles around Scotland’s rugged coastline has been voted one of the world’s top touring routes. Most commentators would recommend you take at least a week for this trip so you can appreciate the stunning scenery around every twist in the road, the hidden landscapes, lochs and much more.

For a true family adventure consider camping along the route where you can tell tales of the Loch Ness Monster, Bonnie Prince Charlie over the campfire or simply gaze up to the dark skies and try to spot some shooting stars. You’ll need a travelling partner with a big boot for all your gear, so the Puma series would be ideal. It’s mega box with a drainage plug would be perfect if some of your kit gets wet too - well this is Scotland!

For landscape lovers, culture vultures, foodies or those who like a wee dram there are plenty of opportunities to stop off. You can immerse yourself in the landscape and history, indulge in the finest of restaurants or add a new bottle of Scotland’s much loved export to the collection. We would recommend the Kuga series, with it’s elevated driving position so you don’t miss a view, five star safety performance for the unexpected and flexible rear seating offering more boot space for your take home treats.

If you need help planning the perfect itinerary depending on your travelling companions visit the dedicated North Coast 500 website.

Kirkstone Pass
If you’ve only got time for a local trip then stick within the national park and take the road from Ambleside to Pooley Bridge over the Kirkstone Pass. With an altitude of 1,489 feet it’s the highest pass in the Lake District open to vehicles and joins the Rothay Valley with Patterdale. Leaving Ambleside you first encounter The Struggle with it’s 1:4 gradient before joining the A592 at the Kirkstone Pass Inn, the third highest inn in England. The descent into Patterdale offers fantastic views of Brotherswater before the shores of Ullswater welcome you to Pooley Bridge.

British Motor Museum, Warwickshire
This museum boasts the world's largest collection of historic British cars. With over 300 vehicles in the collection, free tours, interactive activities for the kids, photographs, films and publicity materials there is plenty to see.

For the Ford enthusiast they have a number of specific events this summer.

Ford Nationals - Sunday 27th July
This membership organisation has over 3000 members and they meet each year for an amazing display of hundreds of Ford cars. Whether you own a modern day classic or the latest Ford model you will have a great day out and you can even be part of the exhibition with your own vehicle!

Old Ford Rally - Sunday 18th July
This event showcases a great selection of pre-1995 Ford vehicles from Anglia’s and Capri’s to Zephyrs and Zodiacs. Live displays featuring old and newer Ford’s and a number of trade stands, useful if you’re restoring an old Ford yourself and need a particular part.

Lakeland Motor Museum, Newby Bridge
Closer to home this museum houses over 30,000 exhibits from classic cars and motorbikes to local history and period shop displays collected over the last 50 years. There’s also a dedicated exhibition to Sir Malcolm Campbell and son Donald following their water speed records on Coniston Water.

Of particular interest from us at Pye are their 1982 Ford Capri Mark 3 and a 1972 Ford Escort Mexico 1600.

Whether you’re planning the ultimate adventure, a road trip or a day out, our Pye team can advise on the perfect partner so the only thing stopping you is your imagination.
