What is GAP Insurance?

GAP stands for 'Guaranteed Asset Protection'.
In the unforunate event that your new vehicle is stolen or written off and declared a total loss, your Insurance Company may not pay out the original purchase price of the vehicle. This is because Comprehensive Motor Insurers make a total loss payment on the market value of your vehicle at the time of your claim and not on the original purchase price. Any depreciation or loss in value that takes place after you have taken delivery of your new vehicle may not be covered. This is your potential loss and GAP is what protects you from this eventuality.

Below is a typical example based on a brand new Transit Short-Wheel Base, which highlights the true benefit of this product.

Purchase Price of the vehicle: £10,995.00
VAT at 17.5%: £1,924.13
Road Fun Licence & 1st Registration Fee: £203.00
Total vehicle price: £13,122.12
Deposit paid of full VAT + 10% of vehicle price: £3,023.63

Borrowing on finance £9,895 over 36 months at £324.35

OK! Now your vehicle which is costing you £324.35 a month is either stolen or involved in an accident after only being on the road for 18-months and declared by the Insurance Company a total loss claim.

Your Insurance Company base the value of your vehicle on the mileage of 20,000 miles and it being 18-months old and offer you £5,700.

Your settlement figure remains to be settled and is £7,784.49.

A difference of £2,084.49 which you are liable for!!

GAP will cover this shortfall and pay you up to the invoice price you orginally paid for your vehicle allowing you to continue with your business at no extra cost.

What is a tachograph?

A tachograph is a device that combines the functions of a clock and a speedometer. Fitted to a motor vehicle, a tachograph records the vehicle's speed and the length of time that it is moving or stationary. The mechanical tachograph writes on a round piece of paper which constantly turns throughout the work day. The marker moves nearer to or further from the center according to the driving speed. An entire rotation encompasses 24 hours.
